GMC Teases The Open Secret Known As The Canyon ATX4 AEV

We'll get a full look at the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV in all of its extremem off-road glory on July 6th

The all-new GMC Canyon is a great truck. It's not a perfect truck but in terms of drivability, both on and off-road, and in terms of comfort, it's impressive. Now, an even more extreme off-road version is coming called the AT4X AEV, and here's your first clear look at it.

We drove just about every trim level of the 2023 GMC Canyon a few weeks back. At the time, it was good enough that we called it the new mid-size truck king of the hill. During that same event, GMC brought out a couple of new trucks including the Sierra HD AT4X and the Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition. The latter towed a trailer with a totally covered pickup.

When we saw it we surmised that it would be a GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition to match the bigger Sierra versions. It has the same Salta wheels that AEV uses and naturally fits in the Canyon lineup just above the already great AT4X. Now, we’ve got confirmation thanks to the photo below. It seems as though GMC might just call it the AEV sans the "Edition" nomenclature.

"The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV is coming," said GMC. It’ll be a 2024 model year and not a 2023 like the rest of the lineup.

The Sierra AT4X AEV will feature 33-inch tires, Salta wheels, skid plates, and steel bumpers with winch capability and integrated recovery points. The Sierra HD AT4X AEV gets the same equipment albeit for its larger frame. The image above does show the skid plates, the recovery points, and a winch so those bits are confirmed. That's what makes it seem a bit odd that GMC is being so secretive about this pickup.

Is it possible that maybe it's going to unveil some really unique and hardcore additions from AEV that are exclusive to the Canyon? Maybe but we kind of doubt it. Either way, we’ll find out when it's fully unveiled on July 6th.
